Debate

Content Outcome:
    1. To present a persuasive argument in the target language.

Process Outcome:
    1. To work effectively within a group
    2. To demonstrate self-evaluation skills.

Task:
Working as a part of a team, the student will prepare and present a debate topic that deals with a current school-related issue.
Each team, consisting of 3-4 students, will be assigned to a topic which is either in favor of or against as issue. The group will decide upon the individual arguments to be presented. In addition to evaluating the student's individual oral and written performance, an assessment of the team's performance will be included in the individual's point total for this activity. Because the student will be permitted to use the written work during oral presentation, the criteria content of the argument will be included in the written evaluation only.
Each group will be given a copy of the rubric for group performance when they begin working on the project so that each member is very much aware of the criteria for this assignment.
