8    Superior Work. Well organized and well written. Appropriate and comprehensible. Uses accents and makes few spelling errors. Uses grammar structure and new vocabulary effectively and is creative.

7    Demonstrates competence. Appropriate and comprehensible in most parts. In general, structure is good, few spelling errors. Good use of vocabulary and expressions, but more than a few grammatical errors. Interesting to read. Some creativity.

6    Suggests competence. Not as organized or creative, but elements are still appropriate and comprehensible. More than a few errors in spelling and grammar. New vocabulary, expressions, and structure are not used enough or are used inappropriately.

5    Suggests incompetence. Not well organized. Ideas are poorly expressed. Many errors in structure, accents, and other basic errors. See me before turning in the final copy!

4    Incompetence. Not acceptable. A complete review is required of this first draft.
