How Much Paint? Task

The students will be put in groups of 3 or 4 for this task. Each group will be given a set of diagrams of different venues. Each diagram will have the dimensions of all necessary sides written on them. The students are to find how much paint would be required to repaint all of the painted/shaded regions of the diagram. Individuals in each group should compare answers and form a consensus on how much paint would be needed. Each group will turn in one project with a detailed list of how they came to their solutions. Each group will also be given a group critique sheet where they will evaluate their peers on their group work.

Criteria

The students will be graded on the following items.

1) Accuracy of calculations.

2) Organization of work.

3) Collaboration with peers
