#3: Clow School’s Travel Agency

 

             Task#3: Students will imagine they are travel agents who are

                               writing a persuasive article from a travel magazine about

              one type of community.

 

Standard: Students will be able to communicate effectively in

                    written expression why their type of community is best.

 

Process:

1. Students will review the characteristics of each community type from their posters.

2. Next students will watch the video “City, Suburbs & Farmlife: Where People Live and Work.”

3. After the video the teacher will ask what a travel agent is.

4. Students will be introduced to “Clow School’s Travel Agency.” They will be told to write a persuasive paragraph about one type

     of community that they feel is the best.

5.  The students will view the rubric and be given the handout.

 

Criteria:

· Students write a persuasive paragraph with the following criteria:

· At least 5 complete sentences

· Descriptive and persuasive language used

· Transitions utilized

· Correct spelling, punctuation and grammar

· Examples that support opinion

 

Rubric:

                                  10:           Descriptive persuasive paragraph with at least 5 complete sen-

                                   tences; Supportive examples that defend opinion; Transitions

                                   utilized within the paragraph; spelling, punctuation & grammar

                                   is correct.

 

                                   7:            Well-developed paragraph with complete sentences; Some exam-

                                   ples that defend opinion; Some transitions used; At least 5 spell-

                                   ing, punctuation & Grammar errors.

 

                                  4:              Paragraph written with many incomplete sentences; Few exam-

                                   ples support opinion; No transitions used; 6 or more spelling, pu-

                                   nctuation errors.
