Freshman English Content 1. Students' oral reading skills will improve through in-class participation. 2. Students will apply cultural knowledge learned from both literature and social studies. 3. Students will be able to define poetic terminology. 4. Students will be able to define elements of literature. 5. Students will be able to define different types of poetry. 6. Students will be able to interpret literature in an analytical manner. 7. Students will be able to summarize and paraphrase information. 8. Students will be able to organize information for a research paper or project. 9. Students will be able to research topics and issues using textual and electronic sources. 10. Students will be able to edit classmates' essays. 11. Students will write a thesis. 12. Students will orally present a topic in an organized and coherent manner, relatively free of basic speaking skills errors. 13. Students will use basic grammar skills. 14. Students will analyze ethical and moral issues from different perspectives. Process 15. Students will use a variety of listening skills in analyzing verbal information and respond accordingly. 16. Students will use a variety of reading skills in analyzing written information and respond accordingly. 17. Students will study literature that will expose them to outlooks from different cultures, areas, and ideas. 18. Students will communicate effectively in a group setting. 19. Students will understand textual themes and relate them to their own lives.
