Task #7: Good Word Choices


Standards: Students will write using good word choices.


Task: Independent Activity - Good Word Choices

- Review the difference between a good word choice and a bad one (good word choices help paint a picture in someone’s mind).

- Pass out the worksheet “Search and Replace.” For this worksheet the students will be reading a paragraph, crossing out bad word choices or “Garbage Can Words” and replacing them with good word choices.

- These worksheets will be graded with the Word Choice Rubric.


Criteria:

1. Good Word Choices - bad word choices should be correctly identified
-the good word choices should create a picture in your mind and should seem accurate in word meaning and natural in the paragraph
