Standards: Students will use a variety of transitions in
their writing.
Students will write using good word choices.
Students will write using specific details and elaboration.
Students will identify strengths and weaknesses of writing pieces and
offer suggestions for improvement of their own work and the work of others.
Task: Independent Work - Writing Two Paragraphs and Self-Assessing
Them
- Students will take the other TWO of their topics from Task #3 for which
they have already done the organizing and written the topic sentences.
- They will write them into TWO paragraphs, paying close attention to
using transitions, good word choices, specific details and elaboration.
- When they are finished with each paragraph, they should self-assess
each one with the Using Transitions Rubric, the Word Choice
Rubric and the Detail and Elaboration Rubric, making corrections
with a red pen.
- I will collect their two paragraphs and their rubrics and evaluate their
self- assessing skills by looking at the completed rubrics and their corrections.
Criteria:
1. Using Transitions - Students should use transitions in their writing.
- Students should use a variety of transitions in their writing.
2. Good Word Choices - should create a picture in your mind and should
seem accurate in word meaning and natural in the paragraph
3. Writing with details and elaboration - Students will be specific
in descriptions with details and will add elaboration to expand upon the
information presented. (These can be examples that help a reader picture
(and/or hear, smell, taste, or feel) the words that are written.)
4. Self-Assessment - Students will fill out the rubrics accurately and
will find errors (weaknesses) and fix them so that they can receive maximum
